Ramses II, known as Ramses the Great, was the most celebrated and powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom—Egypt’s golden age. He ruled for 67 years as part of the 19th Dynasty, erecting enormous temples, obelisks, and statues and expanding Egypt’s empire. This exhibition features the greatest collection of Ramses II objects and Egyptian jewelry ever to travel to the United States. Along with the pharaoh's colossal royal sculpture, we will see recently discovered animal mummies and treasures from the royal tombs of Dahshur and Tanis. We will divide into several groups for a guided tour of the exhibit, have free time to explore other areas of the museum, and enjoy an optional virtual reality experience. Lunch is no-host at the de Young Café.
Virtual Reality Experience: An optional immersive 10-1/2 minute virtual reality (VR) experience, titled "Ramses & Nefertari: Journey to Osiris," will take you on a whirlwind tour of two of Ramses’ most impressive monuments, Abu Simbel and Nefertari’s Tomb, led by a virtual apparition of Nefertari herself. You will wear a VR headset and will be seated in chairs that move to follow the action for an almost-like-being-there presentation.

Pick-Up/Drop-Off: Depart 7:30 a.m. from Davis Target, 7:50 a.m. from University Retirement Community, and 8:40 from the Fairfield Lowes. Return in reverse 3;30, 4:40, and 4:45.

You will only need to do this once, as we will keep the documentation on file.
Masks requirements will be determined one week prior to the trip. Bring a copy of your vaccination card and a photo ID, as some venues require proof of vaccination upon entry.
