Donner Memorial State Park, at 6,000 feet elevation in the scenic Sierra Nevada mountains, is a fascinating destination for history buffs and nature lovers. The visitor center features compelling exhibits that illuminate the emigrant experience, the tragic story of the Donner Party, the land of the Washoe native people who lived in the area, Chinese construction of the railroad, and early motoring adventures over Donner Pass. We will have time to explore the center and join an optional ranger-led walking tour of the lakeside trail to learn about the area's history, geology and ecology. * Lunch will be a bit late (1:45 or 2 p.m.) so feel free to bring a snack to eat on the bus or at the state park.
Pick-Up/Drop-Off: Depart 7:40 a.m. from University Retirement Community and 8 a.m. from Davis Target. Return in reverse 5 and 5:15 p.m.
Activity Level: 1.5 (optional one-hour walking tour on a level path)
Cancellations: Cancellations received by June 22 will receive a full refund. Cancellations received after that date will only receive a refund if your space can be filled from the waiting list.
COVID Policies: Travelers must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccine; if we do not already have a copy of your vaccine card on file, upload it when registering online, email it to us at DavisTravelaires@gmail.com, or send it to the Travelaires office, 646 A Street, Davis CA 95616. You will only need to do this once, as we will keep the documentation on file.
Masks are currently optional, including on the bus. Bring a copy of your vaccination card and a photo ID, as some venues require proof of vaccination upon entry.
