The U.S.S Potomac, dubbed the “Floating Whitehouse,” was Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidential yacht from 1936 to 1945. The ship, a National Historic Monument, was used by FDR for leisure time and to host dignitaries, government officials, diplomats, kings/queens, and family members. We will enjoy a three-hour narrated historical cruise on San Francisco Bay, enjoying views of the city, Alcatraz, Angel Island, the Bay Bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge while learning of the rich history of surrounding landmarks and the impacts FDR's administration had on Bay Area landmarks. We will enjoy a box lunch that includes a sandwich, potato salad, fruit, and a cookie, with soda, beer, and wine available for purchase. NOTE: only the main deck is accessible.
Depart 7:40 a.m. from Davis Target and 8 a.m. from the University Retirement Community. Return in reverse at approximately 3:30 and 3:45 p.m.
Activity Level: 1-2 (relax on the main deck or explore the ship on your own; access to lower decks is via steep stairways)
