Join us for a docent-led behind-the-scenes tour of the Marin County Civic Center designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Built in 1957, the civic center is one of the last major works of Wright’s career and his only realized project for a government entity. We will get eye level with the building’s iconic blue roof, see custom furniture designed by Wright and built by inmates from San Quentin’s wood shop, and learn the complicated and scandalous history of the creation of the building. After the tour, we will enjoy lunch at San Rafael Joe’s, which has been serving Italian-American cuisine since 1947.

Depart 8:10 a.m. from Davis Target and 8:30 a.m. from University Retirement Community. Return in reverse at approximately 3:40 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Activity Level: 2 (75-90 minute walking tour with benches along the way)
